The Wachau Valley - Famous World Region

There are almost no other regions to be found in the world where the white wine is so rich in minerals, with a delicacy and elegance in both taste and aroma, as those produced in the Wachau Valley. The reason is to be found in the unique “Terroir” - combination of soil, climate and Danube River, which provides for continuous air circulation. The contrast between hot daytimes and cool nights enables us here in the Wachau to press an especially aromatic wine.

Our vineyard locations are world famous. They are to be found on the right and left sides of the Danube embankments and have distinctive different characteristics.

Wachau - Unseco WeltkulturerbeRight bank - richness and depth

The vineyards to be found on the right side of the Danube shores in the Wachau incline towards the North and East. Here the town of Mautern is also located. This somewhat climatic cooler area of the Wachau where the typical Braunerdeboden (weather beaten sediment earth minerals) and the sandbank alluvial land deposits also to be found, contribute to the specific identifiable rich tasting wines of Mautern. Silberbichl: Plateau on limestone (about 250 metre above sea level), in the south-east of Mauthern, delicate and fruity wines. Alte Point: The terraced sloped vineyards (approx: 240 meters sea level) lie to the west of Mautern. The brown soil and loess and islands of sandbanks, contribute to the constitution of the mature and rich wine. Süssenberg: A sloping location
(approx: 260 meters sea level) situated to the west of the Alte Pointe, with perfect radiant sunshine throughout
the day, higher sand provision and high concentration of diverse minerals to be found here contrast to the
features found at the Alte Point.

Der Natur verbundenLeft bank - minerality and elegance

The left side of the Danube shore is directly situated towards the sun (southern positioning of the vineyards). The soil itself consists mainly from a mixture of mica, gneiss and slate. The Hutter vineyards here are all situated within the famous local council town of Loiben. Donaugarten: The Danube shore location (approx: 220 meters sea level) consists of gravel, shingle, sandbanks of diluvia deposit sand and has good water provision. All of these natural resources together contribute to an especially fruitful wine. Kreutles: This is the lowest area of Loibenberg, approx: 250 meters sea level. It also has a deep weather beaten soil. The wine is mainly rich in character, fragrant and yet has an elegant refined mineral quality. Loibenberg: approx: 350 meters sea level, again the soil is the typical weather beaten earth of the Wachau, consisting of slate and gneiss. The stone terraced vineyards bring forth a delicate wine of the finest mineral and elegant tasteful quality.
